Contient du zinc et du cobamide. L'enzyme est parfois inactivée au cours de son cycle par oxydation de Co (I) en Co (II). La réactivation par méthylation réductrice est catalysée par l'enzyme elle-même, la S-adénosyl-L-méthionine étant le donneur de méthyle et un système réducteur. Pour l'enzyme mammifère, le système réducteur fait intervenir le NADPH et l'EC 1.16.1.8, [méthionine synthase] réductase. Chez les bactéries, l'agent réducteur est la flavodoxine, et aucun autre catalyseur n'est nécessaire (la flavodoxine est maintenue à l'état réduit par le NADPH et EC 1.18.1.2, la ferrédoxine ¡ª NADP + réductase). Agit sur le monoglutamate ainsi que sur le triglutamate folate, contrairement à EC 2.1.1.14, 5-méthyltétrahydropteroyltriglutamate ¡ª homocystéine S-méthyltransférase, qui n'agit que sur le triglutamate. |
